Company overview
Paradox's "Olivia" is a conversational AI that runs over chat and SMS, sitting in front of an employer's ATS. Olivia handles candidate intake, basic screening questions, interview scheduling, and follow-up. Olivia's screening flows can include knock-out questions and ranking, which is where the regulatory exposure concentrates.
Regulatory exposure
Conversational AI is regulated differently depending on the function. The chat/scheduling surface is largely outside the EU AI Act's high-risk scope. The screening and ranking surface is squarely inside it (Annex III §4). NYC LL 144 applies wherever the system makes ranking decisions that affect NYC-based candidates. Customers should pay close attention to how Paradox draws the line between "Olivia is collecting your CV" and "Olivia is deciding who advances".
Path to a higher score
To move into the B band on this rubric, Paradox would need to publish
(a) a system card for the screening / ranking decisions Olivia makes, with
clear delineation from the conversation-only surface, (b) a current NYC
LL 144 bias audit covering the screening flow, and (c) FRIA-ready
deployer guidance that names which Olivia features are in-scope for
high-risk obligations and which are not.
