Application Honesty
4 items70
- DocumentationCaptured Sep 4, 2026
Huru's own guidance tells candidates "Don't try to game the AI—confidence and honesty always win," "Stay authentic—admit weaknesses," and warns that "faked or extreme answers are easily spotted."

- DocumentationCaptured Sep 4, 2026
The product is scoped to mock interviews, recorded practice and feedback reports — it generates no application material and transmits nothing to an employer, so there is no submitted artifact to fabricate.
- Public statementCaptured Sep 4, 2026
An independent review notes Huru "can improve how you present your answers, but it doesn't guarantee outcomes," and flags a tendency toward formulaic answers rather than fabricated credentials.
- AbsenceCaptured Sep 4, 2026
No product-level anti-fabrication policy, model-answer disclaimer or honesty guardrail is documented anywhere on huru.ai, in the Terms of Service, or in the app; searches of the site, ToS and app bundle found none.
Data & Credential Safety

- DocumentationCaptured Sep 4, 2026
The Chrome extension declares it collects only "website content" — no authentication information — and the developer certifies data is "Not being sold to third parties, outside of the approved use cases" and not used for purposes unrelated to core functionality.

- DocumentationCaptured Sep 4, 2026
The privacy policy states "Encryption in transit and at rest," access controls and regular security audits, and sets explicit retention periods: interview recordings until manually deleted or account closure, account data until deletion or 3 years of inactivity, analytics 25 months, payment records 7 years.
- DocumentationCaptured Sep 4, 2026
GDPR and CCPA rights are enumerated with named response windows (30 days GDPR, 45 days CCPA), a dedicated DPO contact (dpo@huru.ai), and Standard Contractual Clauses for international transfers.
- AbsenceCaptured Sep 4, 2026
The privacy policy never states whether practice video and audio recordings are used to train AI models, and offers no opt-out; searches of huru.ai, the policy and the app bundle found no training disclosure either way.
- AbsenceCaptured Sep 4, 2026
No SOC 2, ISO 27001, trust center or third-party security audit report exists for Huru or Beatview; web searches and a review of the site's security section found only self-asserted "regular security audits."
- DocumentationCaptured Sep 4, 2026
The deployed web app bundle loads Supabase auth, storage and edge functions (@supabase/supabase-js, supabase.co/storage), but the privacy policy's third-party list names only Firebase, AWS, Google Analytics and Stripe — Supabase is not disclosed as a processor.
User Control & Transparency
5 items70
- DocumentationCaptured Sep 4, 2026
Huru is a practice-only tool with no auto-apply and no live interview assistance — no output is ever transmitted to an employer, so there is no blind-submission surface at all.
- DocumentationCaptured Sep 4, 2026
The policy promises full user control: deleting an interview from the Results page "is completely and permanently removed from our database," and "You can delete your entire account at any time."
- DocumentationCaptured Sep 4, 2026
The shipped web app exposes "Export My Data" and per-interview deletion, but its "Delete All Data" control only "permanently delete all your privacy preferences and analytics data" — no account-deletion control appears anywhere in the bundle.
- Public statementCaptured Sep 4, 2026
A 1-star App Store review titled "Deleting interview from app" states "You can not delete previous interviews from this app. They collect your information," contradicting the policy's deletion promise.

The privacy and cookie policies render their revision date as `new Date().toLocaleDateString()`, so the page always displays the current date and never discloses when the policy actually changed.
Employer & ATS Legitimacy
4 items82
- DocumentationCaptured Sep 4, 2026
Huru submits no applications and integrates with no ATS — it produces private practice sessions and feedback reports only, so it creates no employer-facing spam or ToS exposure.
- Product featureCaptured Sep 4, 2026
The Chrome extension reads only the content of the job posting the user is already viewing to generate practice questions; it requests no account access and performs no automated crawling or mass submission.

- Public statementCaptured Sep 4, 2026
An independent review confirms Huru is a preparation tool used before interviews, with no live-assistance or application-automation workflow that could put a candidate's accounts at risk.
- Public statementCaptured Sep 4, 2026
Parent company Beatview, Inc. separately sells an employer-side platform to "screen resumes, run AI interviews, and rank candidates," a dual role not disclosed in Huru's candidate-facing policies.
Effectiveness Evidence

- Public statementCaptured Sep 4, 2026
The homepage advertises "Boost your hireability by +70%," "Reduction in Missed Key Points: +95%," "Improvement in Speech Clarity: +90%" and "Increase in Perceived Confidence: +40%" with no cited source, sample size or methodology.
- Public statementCaptured Sep 4, 2026
The Organizations page claims "individuals who actively prepare with Huru.ai are 3 times more likely to receive a job offer" plus "98% User Satisfaction," again with no supporting study or data.
- Public statementCaptured Sep 4, 2026
The App Store listing shows 4.5 out of 5 from 89 ratings, below the "Rated 4.8/5 by 20,000+" figure Huru advertises on its own homepage.

- Public statementCaptured Sep 4, 2026
Trustpilot shows only 3.9 out of 5 from 7 total reviews with just one submitted in the last 12 months, far too thin to corroborate any outcome claim.
- AbsenceCaptured Sep 4, 2026
No published study, methodology page, whitepaper or third-party validation for any Huru outcome statistic could be located; targeted web searches for the "+70% hireability" and "3x more likely" claims returned nothing.
Pricing & Cancellation Fairness
6 items60
- DocumentationCaptured Sep 4, 2026
Pricing is published openly on the homepage: Starter at $24.99/month and Growth at $99/year (billed as $8.25/month), plus a contact-sales enterprise tier.
- DocumentationCaptured Sep 4, 2026
Cancellation is documented as a four-step self-serve flow in the account's Manage Subscription page, and cancelling stops auto-renewal while preserving access to the end of the paid term.
- Product featureCaptured Sep 4, 2026
The app's "Manage Subscription" button opens the Stripe customer portal ("Access your Stripe customer portal to manage payment methods, view invoices, and update billing details"), confirming cancellation is not gated behind a support request.
- DocumentationCaptured Sep 4, 2026
The refund policy is absolute: "All payments for monthly or yearly subscriptions are non-refundable. This policy applies to both initial subscription payments and all subsequent renewal charges," with no prorated refunds for unused periods.
- DocumentationCaptured Sep 4, 2026
The policy says refunds are refused "except under specific conditions outlined below" but no such conditions are ever stated in the document, leaving a phantom exception.
- DocumentationCaptured Sep 4, 2026
The binding Terms of Service were "last updated on 18 October 2021" and are entirely silent on subscriptions, billing, auto-renewal, trials and cancellation; they also fail to name a governing state ("the laws of United states").

§ 05 - Editorial notes
Company overview
Huru, built by Beatview, Inc. of Hyde Park, New York, is an interview-preparation tool, not an application or in-interview assistant. Users pick a role or paste a job posting (a Chrome extension can pull one from LinkedIn, Indeed, Glassdoor or ZipRecruiter), then record themselves answering AI-generated questions and receive an instant feedback report covering answer content, speech patterns, filler words and confidence. It is available on web and iOS in roughly 15 languages, with a 50,000+ question library, and is sold at $24.99/month or $99/year alongside an enterprise tier for universities and workforce programs. Critically, Huru never writes an application, never submits anything to an employer, and offers no live in-interview help: its "real-time tips" appear only during practice sessions. That places it in a materially safer class than auto-apply bots or interview copilots, and multiple independent reviews confirm it "won't whisper answers during your actual interview."
Regulatory exposure
The main job-seeker risks here are data and marketing, not account bans. Huru takes no third-party credentials — its Chrome extension declares only "website content" and no authentication data, and sign-in is to Huru's own account — so the credential-theft and job-board-ban exposure that plagues auto-apply tools is essentially absent. What it does collect is far more intimate: video and audio recordings of the user's face and voice plus performance analytics. The privacy policy is unusually specific for a small vendor (encryption in transit and at rest, named retention periods, GDPR/CCPA rights, a DPO address), but it never states whether recordings are used to train AI models, carries no explicit "we do not sell your data" line, omits Supabase from its sub-processor list despite the app loading Supabase auth, storage and edge functions, and stamps itself with a "Last updated" date generated by new Date() — always today, so users cannot tell when it actually changed. Parent company Beatview separately sells an employer-side AI screening platform, and nothing published explains whether candidate practice data is walled off from it. Honesty risk is low by construction — no AI-written claims reach an employer — and Huru's own guidance tells candidates not to fake answers. The sharpest problem is marketing: "+70% hireability," "3 times more likely to receive a job offer" and a self-reported "4.8/5 by 20,000+" appear with no methodology and above every verifiable public rating.
Path to a higher score
Huru would move up quickly by publishing the arithmetic behind its outcome claims — sample size, time window, and what "3 times more likely to receive a job offer" is measured against — or by retiring the unsourced percentages in favor of its genuine testimonials. On data, three cheap fixes matter: state plainly whether practice recordings are ever used to train models, add an explicit no-sale statement and name Supabase as a processor, and stop rendering the policy's revision date from the current clock. The promised self-serve account deletion should actually ship in the app: today the web client offers per-interview deletion and a data export, but its "Delete All Data" button only clears privacy preferences and analytics, and an App Store reviewer reports being unable to delete past interviews at all. Commercially, defining the refund exceptions the policy already gestures at, and updating a Terms of Service last revised in October 2021 to actually cover subscriptions and auto-renewal, would close the gap between fair cancellation mechanics and an otherwise absolute no-refund stance.
