Company overview
AIApply (operated by Apply Hero LLC, founded in 2023 by Aidan Cramer and Peter Utekal, with a US business registration at 2120 University Ave, Berkeley, California) is an AI job-application suite marketed to job seekers. It bundles an auto-apply engine that submits tailored applications to matched roles, an AI resume builder, an AI cover-letter generator, an ATS resume scanner, and an 'Interview Buddy' real-time interview assistant. The company reports roughly 2 million registered users. Pricing centers on an approximately $29/month toolkit subscription, but auto-apply, the headline feature, requires separately purchased credits or higher auto-apply plans (roughly $49-$99/month), so real all-in cost is close to double the advertised base price.
Regulatory exposure
Data handling is disclosed in a privacy policy that pledges not to sell or rent personal data and claims 'encryption where appropriate,' but no SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certification is published and credential handling is only vaguely described. Auto-apply appears to route through AIApply's own aggregated job board and a generated application mailbox rather than storing users' LinkedIn or job-board passwords, which limits direct credential exposure. The larger job-seeker risks are honesty and account quality: independent testers report the AI over-optimizes or 'hallucinates' fit and has sent applications in the wrong language or to the wrong seniority without a reliable review-before-submit gate, so misleading applications can reach employers under the user's name. AIApply publishes no anti-fabrication guardrails and no job-board-ToS or account-safety guidance.
Path to a higher score
AIApply is a legitimate, founder-identified company rather than an anonymous scam, but its billing and accountability record is the main caution: a BBB 'F' rating with most complaints left unanswered, a Trustpilot review-integrity flag, weekly-price framing that masks larger charges, an undisclosed credit add-on, and a refund policy that pays out only for documented technical errors. Headline outcome claims (61% get an interview in 10 days, 'up to 80% higher interview rate') are unsubstantiated and are contradicted by independent testing for mid and senior roles. Job seekers are best served treating it as a resume and cover-letter drafting aid to edit heavily rather than a hands-off auto-apply service, reviewing every AI-generated application before it is sent, and being wary of the subscription-plus-credits billing.
