Knockri
Knockri runs asynchronous structured behavioural interviews that candidates answer by audio, video or text; it transcribes the answers, uses NLP models to score the work-related behaviours they describe against a skills framework, and produces per-skill scores and ranked shortlists.
HireAIScore rates Knockri 47 out of 100 (grade F, Substantial gaps) under rubric v1.0, last reviewed September 25, 2026. Knockri ranks 21 of 57 vendors rated in Video interview AI, against a category average of 44. That score is drawn from 41 evidence items across 7 rubric criteria for Knockri — 36 with a cited source, 5 recording that nothing was located.

Knockri's PCT application 'System and method for behavioral attribute measurement' (published 8 December 2022) discloses the method: responses are converted to text, transformer language models such as BERT or RoBERTa are fine-tuned on human-annotated behaviour data, and standardised scores are converted to percentiles to rank applicants.

The Treasury Board Secretariat's Algorithmic Impact Assessment of its Knockri pilot (published February 2024) explains the scoring in plain language: audio is transcribed, an NLP model flags work behaviours, each question's score is the share of rubric behaviours present and the overall score is their average; it also says the production models are static, the algorithm is a trade secret and Knockri's technical documentation went to TBS rather than being published.

§ 05 - Editorial notes
Company overview
Knockri Inc. is a Toronto company founded in 2017 by Jahanzaib Ansari (CEO) and Faisal Ahmed (CTO). It sells AI-scored structured behavioural interviews for hiring and internal promotion. Candidates answer asynchronously by audio, video or text. Their answers are transcribed, and NLP models look for work-related behaviours and score them against a skills rubric; the method is described in Knockri's patent WO2022251970. The output is a score for each skill, a breakdown of the behaviours shown and a ranked shortlist. Pricing is published, starting at $799 a month billed annually. Knockri integrates with Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, iCIMS, Greenhouse and other applicant tracking systems, and it has worked with Canadian federal departments, including National Defence and the Treasury Board Secretariat. Since 2025 it has built agent workflows and governance on IBM watsonx. Knockri now says it scores transcripts only and uses no non-verbal or emotional cues. That is a change: in 2020 The Globe and Mail reported that the software also analysed facial expressions and was trained on videos scored by client recruiters.
Regulatory exposure
Knockri's scores and ranked shortlists are used to screen candidates. That makes it an automated employment decision tool under NYC Local Law 144 whenever an employer uses it for NYC roles, yet no independent bias audit or published summary could be found. The gap matters more now that DCWP has committed to tougher enforcement after the December 2025 State Comptroller audit. Under the EU AI Act it is a high-risk Annex III point 4 system, and Knockri hosts services in the EU. The Digital AI Omnibus moved those obligations to 2 December 2027. Scoring transcripts only should keep Knockri outside the Article 5(1)(f) ban on workplace emotion recognition. Given the 2020 reporting, though, deployers should get written confirmation that no visual or vocal features are used, including in the proctoring 'Trust Score'. In Illinois, employers that collect video answers fall under the AI Video Interview Act (notice, an explanation of how the AI works, consent, deletion on request) and HB 3773's notice duty, in force since 1 January 2026. Colorado's SB 26-189 disclosure rules start on 1 January 2027. California's FEHA rules require keeping automated-decision records for four years. Knockri has no default retention schedule and keeps data until the employer or the candidate asks for a purge, so deployers must set retention for each jurisdiction themselves. In Canada, the Treasury Board Secretariat's published Algorithmic Impact Assessment rated its Knockri pilot at Impact Level 1 under the Directive on Automated Decision-Making.
Path to a higher score
The biggest gain would come from bias-audit transparency. Knockri should commission an independent audit in Local Law 144 format, with impact ratios by sex, race/ethnicity and intersectional groups. It should publish that audit together with the adverse-impact and validation findings that currently sit behind a lead form on its reports page. It should also publish a system card and instructions for use. These would cover the speech-to-text step, the behaviour classifiers, rubric scoring, the LLM summaries and the inputs to the Trust Score, along with known limits such as transcription errors for accents or speech differences. An EU AI Act deployer pack with a FRIA template could build on its work on the Treasury Board AIA. On governance, it should link the Drata-hosted trust center at trust.knockri.com from its security page. It should also update that page and the privacy notice with its ISO/IEC 27001:2022 status, the EU-US Data Privacy Framework in place of Privacy Shield, a subprocessor list, a DPA, a default retention schedule, and a statement on whether customer data trains its models. Finally, it should switch on its inactive Statuspage, publish a log of model changes, and document safeguards for the option that sends interview invitations by score rank.
§ Regulatory frame
What applies to video interview ai.
The most heavily-regulated category. NYC LL 144 has applied since 2023; EU AI Act Annex III §4 treats the assessment layer as high-risk; Mobley v. Workday is shaping vendor-liability case-law here.
